lath
a poacher\'s device consisting of small board of light wood weighted with lead to make it float on end. Four of five hooks are attached on lengths of line below the lead. The board is floated across likely fish pools and shallows. The lath, being strung like a kite, works upstream as the line is pulled and can be worked from shore or a boat
